SCRAF's Spanish Barb Mission

Why the Spanish Barb?

Why the Spanish Barb?

"They are remnants from the Golden Age of Spain" Strong and Study, their unique build makes them not only hardy but very versatile and athletic for war maneuvers. This paired with their intelligence and courage, is why they were prized amongst the conquistadors, and later Native Americans.

The Barb horse survived the stressful voyage to the new world in the hull of the ship. This proving they were sensible, Healthy, and adaptable. Their presence changed the outlook for exploration as well as war. At one point in time they were world famous and highly sought after by the most Royal Stud Farms of Europe.

For over six centuries the Spanish Barb has been the base for most modern breeds. However, these ancient bloodlines "were nearly annihilated during the 19th century" due to cross breeding and war slaughtering the horses because they were a disadvantage.  Now with less then 3,000 pure Spanish Barbs left they are very rare and considered endangered. If it wasn't for the efforts of a few breeders who valued the unmatched traits and historical impact of the pure Spanish Barb, this breed would be nothing more than a legend of North America.

Now's your chance to save the breed.
